Ingrid Michaelson Live

Thursday, February 4, 2010

If you bought tickets to Ingrid Michaelson's concert last Saturday night thinking you were her only fans (I'm talking about you, annoying girls in line in front of me), you were immediately proven wrong. The line for the show went all the way from the Hub's main entrance to Storke Tower. It's obvious that word of Ingrid Michaelson's talent is known among UCSB coeds, making a ticket to her concert last Saturday night a hot commodity.

"Lost" Begins to Get Lost

Thursday, February 4, 2010

What kind of a TV columnist would I be if I didn't dedicate a column to the return of "Lost"? Actually, I'm hoping with this article I'll have filled my "Lost" quota and won't have to bring up this dumb-ass show again, but hey, we won't talk about that. For those of you who somehow avoided being sucked into the "Lost" black hole, the only thing you probably know is that a plane full of people with serious issues crashed on an Island of Crazy and all hell broke loose. While, yes, that basically is the whole premise of the show, the beginning of season six finds our beloved islanders in a mess of love triangles, bombs and too many people called "Other" spanning three points in time: the '70s, the future and present day. I'd love to go into the details of all these different realities, but I honestly don't understand them well enough. No one really knows what's going on, but we all fake it. Wait. Did I just describe sex?

The Ruins of "Rome" *

Thursday, February 4, 2010

Oh, Veronica Mars, how far you have fallen. You went from a sarcastic, witty teen detective to a flat, broken slapstick humorist. "When in Rome" just happens to be your latest sad attempt at moving beyond the small screen.

Artsweek's Anticipated February LP Releases

Thursday, February 4, 2010

It's barely February, and 2010 is already shaping up to be a stellar year for new albums. January has already seen the arrival of pop it-girl Ke$ha's debut album, Animal, and the return of indie rocker group Vampire Weekend with its latest, Contra. Artsweek presents a list of albums you'll want to check out in February and March.

"World's Greatest Dad"

Thursday, February 4, 2010

So the Oscar nominations came in Tuesday. As usual, they were all for boring, safe, generic movies. Almost nothing edgy or off the beaten path made the cut. Just the same old, same old and Meryl Streep's 14th nomination. Movies don't get nominations based on quality, and they certainly don't win on their own merit. Winning Oscars costs millions and millions of dollars.
