Under the Table

Keep Rollin', Rollin', Rollin' Blunts

Thursday, January 25, 2007

Most nights, I lie on my bed staring up at the ceiling. Dreams spew like smoke from my mind as the THC comforts the void of my thoughts. Another blunt seems far out, but far from reach - my brain cells are now more capable of travel than the body, their poisoned receptacle.

West L.A. Is the Place to Head for Hawtness

Thursday, January 25, 2007

What do you do when a friend shows off a haircut that cost $300? I nearly fainted. Three hundred dollars for a haircut? Yeah, it's a fantastic haircut, but who on Earth gets away with charging that much cabbage? I'll tell you who: John Frieda Hair Salon on Melrose Place, the salon of the stars.

Slavery, Racism Cited in Poetic Response to Stevens

Thursday, January 25, 2007

This poem is in response to Courtney Stevens' column ("Higher Education Fails to Pass Test," Daily Nexus, Jan. 16). In her column, Ms. Stevens makes the claim that minorities dumb down the university.

University Should Consider A.S. Control Over Funds

Thursday, January 25, 2007

The 'pardon' temporarily granted to the Daily Nexus by the president of A.S. is portrayed in the Santa Barbara News-Press as a grand display of leniency. In truth, the Associated Students Legislative Council is the organization that ought to be facing review.

Problems Can Be Fixed if Students Voice Their Needs

Thursday, January 25, 2007

I'm on Legislative Council. Before you ignore me, I want to explain some things about A.S. - the things you don't hear about because the Daily Nexus doesn't always cover them. Regardless of what you might think, I don't hate the Nexus; I also don't think they always make good decisions (like with Conquest).

People of Color Enhance Campus, Ethnic Studies

Thursday, January 25, 2007

I must say that I am genuinely disgusted and appalled by the things that I have read in the opinion section of the Nexus. I advocate free speech and believe everyone has the right to an opinion, but the things I have read have been ignorant and totally misguided.

Activism Is the Cure for Frustration with Nexus, A.S.

Thursday, January 25, 2007

I'm an activist. I think you should be one, too. The people running our organizations aren't superheroes or drama whores (well, not all of them), and aren't necessarily smarter or more confident than any unorganized student.

Insert Hoeing Pun Here

Thursday, January 25, 2007

I am standing at UCSB's 2007 Word Farm watching Harrison Reiner say, "I'm totally star struck. And I thought I couldn't get star struck anymore, I am a big fan of your work, big fan," to a flaming-haired woman. Reiner, a CBS Executive, has worked on such films as academy award winning "My Left Foot" and "Cinema Paradiso."

Child's Play

Thursday, January 25, 2007

Adam Gopnik's fans have endured an awful dry spell since 2000, when Paris to the Moon, the longtime New Yorker essayist's previous collection, saw publication. His refined, observant prose made the recounted experience of actually living and raising a child in quite possibly the world's most romanticized city both resonant and recognizable.

Flying Solo

Thursday, January 25, 2007

The 16th Annual Monologue Festival, produced in the off-season between fall and winter productions, is probably unknown to most students outside of the drama department. Without the profile or publicity associated with the New Plays Festival, the Monologue Festival is like a neglected little brother. A mad genius little brother.

Decent Proposal

Thursday, January 25, 2007

The Nexus got an anonymous phone call from a dedicated reader of the paper last night, telling us to go fuck ourselves. Oh thanks, sweetie. We were wondering how to release all the frustration we've been feeling.
