With the luck of the Irish and 2,500 raucous fans behind them, the #17 Gauchos came from behind for the first time all season to beat San Diego State 2-1 and push themselves into the second round of the NCAA Playoffs. A menacing first half attack by the Aztecs proved fruitless, but they eventually broke the scoreless tie in Saturday's standoff in the 55th minute of play. Their advantage was short lived, though, as the Gauchos' second-half press produced a pair of goals on the scoreboard 10 minutes later.

The #6 UCSB men's water polo team broke even after yesterday's doubleheader at Campus Pool, but despite losing the early game to #3 UCLA and rebounding later in the evening to defeat #20 California Baptist, it inched another step closer to a playoff berth.

Junior guard Alex Harris poured in 25 points to lead the UCSB men's basketball team to a come-from- behind 75-67 victory over San Josˇ State in the season opener on Nov. 10. Continuing to thrive in his new spot as shooting guard and showing that his phenomenal exhibition performance was no fluke, Harris scored 15 second-half points, sank five of his nine three-point attempts and was perfect from the free throw stripe in six tries as the Gauchos (1-0 overall) overcame a 12-point first-half deficit.
