The 29 organizations that are part of the Students' Initiative have gathered more than the 2,130 student signatures necessary to get the fee increase on the ballot for next week's special election. The final signature count comes to 3,500, said Associated Students President Jared Goldschen.

Beer-soaked laptops and smashed cell phones are not an uncommon sight in Isla Vista, and now students can get rid of these electronics legally as Electronic Waste Management hosts a free e-waste disposal and recycling event this weekend. EWM, the electronic division of office furniture recycling company ACQuisitions Office, will hold the event at the Earl Warren Showgrounds beginning this Friday from 12 to 5 p.m. and continue with it Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Fashion is the visual representation of a generation's culture - poodle skirts in the1950s exemplified the spirit of the carefree post-World War II life, while the rebellious '60s and '70s brought about a disheveled-looking youth.

I can spot an expertly rolled joint the second it's passed to me in any rotation. As my thumb and forefinger grab hold of such a creation, I realize it's the craft that my comrades and I truly take pride in. With vengeance on their minds, the Gauchos jumped on top of the visiting Aggies quickly and never let go of the reins in a 1-0 victory. For the entire first half and the beginning of the second, the Gauchos (9-6-0 overall, 4-2-0 in the Big West) shelled Davis (7-6-2 overall) with one dangerous ball after another sent into the box, but they would have to wait until the 61st minute to strike paydirt.

On Tuesday, October 10, Nobel Prize-winning economist Joseph Stiglitz came to UCSB's Campbell Hall. Stiglitz, also a renowned author, wrote the books, Fair Trade for All: How Trade Can Promote Development, Globalization and Its Discontents, and Making Globalization Work, among others. In keeping with the themes of his literary works, most of his lecture was concerning globalization and how he believes it "affects every aspect of society."
