Parking Plan To Reach Final Stage

Friday, February 10, 2006

After almost four years of planning, a revised version of the Isla Vista parking plan is making a final pit stop at the California Coastal Commission (CCC), where commission members will decide whether or not to allow the plan to take effect. John McInnes, Santa Barbara County director of strategic and long-range planning, said the CCC must grant the county a permit to implement the plan before it can be enacted.

Free Ride Along Ocean Side

Friday, February 10, 2006

Cast your mind back to - if you've got them - the days of riding an ancient, rattling bus to your crumbling public elementary school where, after stopping by the filthy bathroom, you'd sit down at a desk encrusted with the class of '76's chewing gum. In the afternoon, you would, with luck, get to roll around a fecal matter-strewn public park or perhaps take a dip in the ominously yellow waters of the community pool.

Students Lack Geographic Sense

Friday, February 10, 2006

To truly understand something, you have to be able put a name on it. So I'm talking to Jeff Gibson, the Opinion Editor at the Nexus. I explain to him the context of my newest article, a treatise on geography, illiteracy and the American dictum. Gibson, being the gawky, goofy-grinned geek that he is, says, "Hey, I know geography!"

Cartoons Attack Islamic Faith, Prophet Muhammad

Friday, February 10, 2006

I am writing in response to Andrew Levine's article ("Don't Fuss Over Political Spoofs," Daily Nexus, Feb. 6). Levine talks about how Muslims are overreacting to the depiction of our beloved Muhammad (PBUH) and how this overreaction is not justified.

Don't Warn Pedestrians, Crazed Drivers Are At Fault

Friday, February 10, 2006

I think I speak for most Isla Vista residents when I say Isla Vista has an overwhelming presence of police. IVFP, UCPD, CHP - the frequency that I see these acronyms in our half-square-mile town even disgusts me at times. However, Jan. 27, I think I saw more cops on my street than I saw on Halloween and Cal Poly's Mardi Gras combined.

She Said: Valentine's Day is A Good Excuse for Chocolates and Sex

Friday, February 10, 2006

Ah, Valentine's Day. The sing-song-sweet sound of the romantic celebration's moniker drizzles down lovers' spines like chocolate on strawberries. Of all the holidays in the year, this one makes for the most sensual, the most arousing, the most fun.

Illegal Downloading Helps Up and Coming Musicians

Friday, February 10, 2006

Illegal downloading is pretty sweet. This movement to stop people from enjoying music is a joke. A lot of people are being too greedy to realize that if it wasn't for these "illegal" downloads many bands wouldn't make it in the music business.

He Said: Valentine's Celebrations are Nothing But a Waste of Time

Friday, February 10, 2006

Simply put: Valentine's Day is the biggest sham since "Alf" was cancelled. Complete bullshit.

UCSB Sniffs Out Upset Over Anteaters

Friday, February 10, 2006

It may not have been the upset of the century, the decade or even the year, but the UCSB men's basketball team's 60-59 win over #1 UC Irvine last night probably felt that way. The Gauchos (9-11 overall, 2-6 in the Big West) put together their first set of back-to-back wins since the first week of the season and picked up just their second road victory this year.

Following Tuesday's 16-1 clobbering of Westmont the UCSB baseball team (1-0 overall) faces its first test when San Jose State visits Caesar Uyesaka Stadium for the first three game series of the year. "It's been a long fall and winter and we're all really excited to play someone else besides ourselves for once," junior pitcher Andy Graham said.
