Tuesday, November 15, 2005

The UC Regents have filed a lawsuit against the Goleta Water District, alleging that one-third of UCSB's yearly water bill - approximately $300,000 - goes to fees the school is not required to pay by state law.

Following several sting operations in which a number of Goleta and Isla Vista retailers were caught selling cigarettes to minors, many stores - including I.V. Tuesday, November 15, 2005

With funding for artists already rarer than a Nicolas Poussin painting, students will now only have one more chance to receive money from the Abrams Art Prize. The prize, which will be discontinued after this year, offers $500 to one UCSB undergraduate student and $1,200 to a graduate student.

Tuesday, November 15, 2005

A UC Berkeley student accused an academic advisor of using a racial slur last month during a heated exchange outside the West Berkeley apartment building where they both live. Speaking to more than 200 students at a campus forum on race Thursday, sophomore Erika Williams said Sherman Boyson, the undergraduate advisor in the School of Social Welfare, called her a "nigger" in October during a confrontation outside the apartment complex.

Rogue Inquiry Evades Prod

Tuesday, November 15, 2005

Answering a question with a question is generally considered poor etiquette - I call it "rogue questioning." If it's not an admission of guilt or error, it's an admission of stupidity. Sometimes though, if it is done with tact and arrogance, rogue questioning can be an effective recourse to dominating an argument.

Stop Santa Barbara's Political Erosion

Tuesday, November 15, 2005

The battle between the Santa Barbara leftists and the editorial section of the Santa Barbara News-Press needs to stop, for the betterment of this community. I am saddened and discouraged at the discourse between our community leaders (civic and citizen) throughout this latest election cycle, specifically the perceived bias from the editorial pages of the News-Press, and then from the left in various media rebuttals.

Schnauzer Balls Made to Dangle, Not to Be Mangled

Tuesday, November 15, 2005

There comes a time in every pet owner's life when a decision must be made. No, not the "old age filled with arthritis or euthanasia" decision, but the "neuter or not" decision. Now most of you would go along with good old Bob "The Price is Right" Barker and say that there is no question and send the dog off to surgery.

Support Chicanos' In Fight Against Rights Violations

Tuesday, November 15, 2005

I am writing as a concerned human being showing solidarity to our brothers and sisters around the world who are victims of human rights violations. Electronic Math System Hinders More Than Helps

Tuesday, November 15, 2005

I am frustrated with the way WeBWork is run and how students are graded on their performances. WeBWork is a system used by some UCSB professors to allow students to turn homework in through an online system. A student is given a number of problems and is then given a specific period of time to correctly answer problems. This is convenient for professors, but it brings about tremendous frustration for the students.

Tuesday, November 15, 2005

For the second time in as many seasons, moans of frustration erupted from the UCSB men's soccer team at Zodo's Bowling and Beyond during the telecast of the brackets of the NCAA College Cup.

Silver Sleeper

Tuesday, November 15, 2005

I don't know if you noticed yesterday in the Nexus, but we featured one of the funniest photos I've ever seen in my weatherlife. Seven or so silver seniors sat in front of a guy in a red hat, and in the background sat 10 empty chairs.
