I should have realized that our Vegas trip was doomed when I referred to Siegfried and Roy as Sigmund and Freud while driving into town. I know what Dr. Freud would say about this Freudian slip. He'd conclude that I want to have a foursome with Siegfried, Roy and one of their fluffy white tigers. That's okay. Freud was pretty much full of shit.

Today, students across the country are engaging in efforts to make our universities and society more equitable. It is because of National Take Affirmative Action Day, sponsored by the United States Student Association (USSA), that our campus, as well as others, is educating people about affirmative action.

Halloween is almost upon us once again. As I begin to bar my doors against the onslaught of drunkenness and debauchery surely to ensue this coming weekend, I find myself thinking about what you, my peers, are concerning yourselves with. While I'm ordering plywood with which to board up my windows, most of you are planning on what you're going to wear this holiday season.

This letter is in reply to Courtney Weaver's article ("Proposition 73 Endangers Women," Daily Nexus, Oct. 25). Many women have abortions to rid themselves of a problem. I am in complete agreement with this, as the law states that women have a right to choose.

I'll be the first one to admit it. As a born and raised Bay Area sports fan, living in Southern California has its difficulties, To get Oakland A's games on television, you have to spend $150 for MLB Extra Innings. If your football team makes the playoffs, you're looking at a ten-hour roundtrip drive to witness the power of homefield advantage firsthand.

311 however, who has pooped out successful albums for over 10 years now, and made a living out of playing countless shows in between recording their 8-plus albums, didn't fail to disappoint.

Behind the guise of his nerdy recording artist persona, Rivers Cuomo gets labeled a lot of things: heartfelt songwriter, clever lyricist and unlikely rock hero, to name a few. Plug the poor guy into an amp in front of a couple hundred people and he is often forced to face the wrath of what can only be called a media shit storm.

Like any good rock music wonder kid, Conor Oberst likes to write songs... lots of them. When you plunge into touring with such a substantial catalogue to choose from, boasting grand-scale, career-spanning performances to your adoring public, it becomes damn near impossible to please everyone.

Provided you're not perversely nostalgic for Joseph McCarthy's reign of blacklisting terror, you probably won't gain much in the way of an ideological epiphany from George Clooney's new drama, "Good Night, and Good Luck." You might learn a thing or two about gleaning a sharp, compelling bit of moviemaking from a somewhat isolated historical event.

The Rogue Wave's as-yet-unreleased latest album, Descended Like Vultures may not be the next Imagine. For that matter, it may not even be the next Transatlanticism, but such is the all-too-often-faced quandary of pop music today.

The Commercial Review: The Runners Four is the hottest new album on the racks this month! Deerhoof is back with their same old sound, but this time around they challenge their listeners with a much mellower tone and a sonic and lyrical depth that showcases their maturation as an indie rock band.
