An 18-year-old UCSB student died Thursday night after she was thrown from a car during an accident on State Route 217, near campus. Freshman Abigail Isabela was not wearing a seatbelt when she was ejected from the car, driven by 19-year-old Santa Barbara City College student Jose Carlos Valdez.

Manley House co-op residents unveiled their renovated, repainted and now environmentally friendly digs to the public Friday afternoon. The 16 residents of the co-op, located on the corner of Embarcadero del Norte and Cervantes Road, showcased the house's new paint job, kitchen and solar panel system at the celebration Oct. 21.

Isla Vista Foot Patrol (IVFP) found the body of a 64-year-old Isla Vista resident dead in his camper Friday, following reports that he had not shown up for work in a few days.

I first started going to Chumash Casino in 1997. At the time, the laws were different in California about how these casinos operate. The casinos were not allowed to keep player losses. Instead, they earned their income on a pay-to-play system. For example, it cost 50 cents to play a single hand of blackjack.

Sometime between my semi-annual bike accident and my customary run-in with Pirate at I.V. Market, I got to thinking about unavoidable repetition. I've been at UCSB for a few years now and though I've taken classes in a wide array of subject matter and I've met new people each quarter, it seems that my life here is doomed to repeat itself.

The UCSB women's volleyball team (12-7 overall, 7-1 in the Big West) continued its October tear, avenging its only conference loss, with a sweep over Cal Poly on Saturday night.

With the Big West Conference season waning, the UCSB women's soccer team needed a pair of wins this weekend that it could not get. The Gauchos (8-10 overall, 2-4 in the Big West) split a pair of games, losing to Pacific 3-2 and beating Northridge 2-1 on the road.

In its return to Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) play this weekend, the #15 UCSB men's water polo team dropped both its games to two of the top teams in the nation. The Gauchos (9-12 overall, 0-3 in the MPSF) fell 8-2 to #4 UCLA and 10-3 to #1 USC.
