Tuesday, October 18, 2005

Leather-clad locals looking for a place to repair the boots, belts and biker chaps that do not survive Halloween weekend will have to search outside of Isla Vista this year. The Leather Guild currently located at 6529 Trigo Rd., will close its doors on October 29 after 32 years of business in I.V. A Constructive Coalition

Tuesday, October 18, 2005

Sylvia Frain's column, "UC Should Rethink Relationship with Los Alamos" (Daily Nexus, Oct. 14), demonstrates a staggering lack of knowledge about the lab and the University of California's role in managing it. As a graduate student researcher in the Materials Dept. who worked at Los Alamos for a summer and currently has several active research collaborations at the lab, I feel compelled to respond to her misconceptions.

Criticism of Stein Sophomoric

Tuesday, October 18, 2005

This letter is in response to Monday's letters "Ben Stein Confuses What It Means to Be an American" (Daily Nexus, Oct. 17) and "Republicans Wasted Their Money Bringing Stein to SB" (Daily Nexus, Oct. 17). I love bigotry and duplicity. It gives me something to talk about, something to argue with. And I especially savor it in couples.

Root of Isla Vista Evil Not Lost on darksideofUCSB.com

Tuesday, October 18, 2005

Right Rant, Wrong Rag? It would appear that Adam Graff may have submitted his diatribe entitled "It Takes an Isla Village" (Daily Nexus, Oct. 17), to the wrong paper. Adam's comments about rude drivers, pathetic-looking guys harassing decently dressed girls, water-balloon assaults, blunt rolling, drunken girls walking right into trees, people stealing or knocking down parked bikes just for the hell of it and racial slurs certainly ring true to anyone who has spent more than a few minutes in I.V.

UC a Better Candidate than Big Business for Los Alamos

Tuesday, October 18, 2005

This letter is in response to the column written last Friday by Sylvia Frain titled "UC Should Rethink Relationship With Los Alamos" (Daily Nexus, Oct. 14). This well-written column touched on an issue that most UC students are likely unaware of - the fact that the University of California has been in charge of the nuclear facilities at Los Alamos, New Mexico, the birthplace of the atomic bomb, for quite some time.

I returned to campus this weekend for the first time since 1997 (residence on the East Coast and in the Midwest having prevented an earlier homecoming).
