It may be time to start calling the UCSB men's lacrosse team a dynasty. Playing in the title game for the third consecutive year, the #2 Gauchos (21-2 overall, 4-0 in the Western Collegiate Lacrosse League) came from behind to defeat #4 Sonoma State 8-7, and win their second straight national championship.

The members of the UCSB women's track and field team are pioneers in their sport: They are the first UCSB track and field team to ever take the Big West Conference Championship title home to Santa Barbara. The championships were a test of grit and determination, and Santa Barbara proved it was up to the challenge, defeating third-place Long Beach State 179-138 over the weekend in Irvine, Calif.

Pete Dolan, UCSB track and field head coach, brought a third-place finish in the Big West Conference Track and Field Championships for the Gauchos along with him in his first year as coach in 1993 - and he's secured the championship again this year. The men's side took third place for the first time in twelve years this weekend in Irvine, Calif.

On the brink of NCAA Regional selections, the UCSB softball team had its playoff hopes pushed under the rug this weekend. In the final series of Big West play, Cal Poly brought out the brooms, sweeping the Gauchos (26-22 overall, 9-12 in the Big West) and holding them to only two runs in three games.
