The UCSB men's lacrosse team is one step closer to a return trip to the national championships. The Gauchos (15-2 overall, 4-0 in the Western Collegiate Lacrosse League) dominated Arizona (8-5 overall, 2-1 WCLL) early and often on their way to an 11-5 victory in the WCLL quarterfinals. Santa Barbara scored six straight goals to start the game and cruised to an easy victory.

Apparently, for its series against Santa Barbara this weekend, Cal Poly not only packed its bats, mitts and cleats, but also its brooms. The Gauchos (19-22 overall, 1-5 in the Big West) were the victims of some spring cleaning at Caesar Uyesaka Stadium this weekend. Their Big West and Central Coast rivals swept them under the carpet in three games, 6-1, 15-6 and 13-10.

Senior Ben Armel finally found the race he has been looking for. He took first in the 800-meter with a season-best and regional qualifying mark in the Cal-Nevada Championships this weekend in Fresno. Junior Scott McConville, normally a 1,500 runner, blasted from the back of the pack to finish second behind Armel.

The UCSB softball team (23-16 overall, 6-6 in the Big West) took a trip to Stockton, Calif., to play Pacific (24-20, 8-4), but had to wait two hours and 40 minutes for a rain delay before dropping one game on Saturday and splitting the Sunday series.
