This morning the Santa Barbara County Fire Dept. is withdrawing its firefighters from UCSB because it is concerned for their health. The department is moving the three-firefighter crew to a station on Storke Road.

Single students came to get lei'd Thursday night at Hillel's fourth annual Kosher Love Luau. The luau, which started at 7 p.m. and lasted about three hours, included dating-themed events such as Singled Out, Battle of the Sexes and a date auction.

Aside from the lovely, colored, glossy paper that the ad is printed on, it contains such enlightening, fact-based assertions such as "Buttny doesn't care about farming" and "Buttny doesn't listen to others."

For the UCSB women's basketball team, revenge is sweet. Senior center Lindsay Taylor scored a game-high 20 points and pulled down eight rebounds as the Gauchos defeated the Vandals 86-50 in front of 1,774 fans in attendance at the Thunderdome on Thursday night.

In perhaps its ugliest game in school history, the UCSB men's basketball team hit a storm at Moscow, Idaho and went ice cold. Listlessly, Santa Barbara hit a scoring drought and the University of Idaho took advantage to trounce the Gauchos 57-45 on Thursday night at the Cowan Spectrum.

During this upcoming weekend, the UCSB softball team will focus on one thing - improvement. The Gauchos will head to Cal Poly for the annual Cal Poly Mustang Round-up Tournament. The team will see an array of talent, and even some teams from the Big West Conference.

Finally, baseball season is here and the Gauchos will begin theirs by traveling to state-of-the-art Tony Gwynn Stadium to face the unranked San Diego State Aztecs this weekend. The first of the three UCSB-SDSU clashes begins tonight at at 6, followed by 1 p.m. games on both Saturday and Sunday.

Back in the comfort of Rob Gym, the UCSB men's volleyball team hosts Irvine and Santa Cruz tonight and tomorrow night, respectively, at 7:05. In his second year, Irvine Head Coach John Speraw is coming off a 20-11 overall and 12-8 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation record in the 2003 season, the best in Anteater history.

The #2 UCSB men's lacrosse team will take on the #5 BYU Cougars this Friday at 2 p.m. at Harder Stadium in a highly anticipated out-of-conference matchup. "BYU is a solid, solid team. Their strength is experience, and they've got a lot of it," UCSB Head Coach Mike Allan said.
