A lot of anger and a little silliness dominated a spirited rally held by on-campus unions Wednesday at Storke Plaza. The rally was part of a statewide demonstration at all UC campuses in demand of fair treatment and higher wages.

On Wednesday, UC Berkeley's College Republicans held a bake sale, not to raise funds but, as is the trend these days, to raise awareness. It was an anti-affirmative action bake sale, one of several at college campuses around the nation.

At last night's meeting of the Project Area Committee and General Plan Advisory Committee, Isla Vista residents were given a chance to question and comment on the forthcoming I.V. Community Center. Held at St. Michael's Church, the meeting revolved around the center's feasibility study, as presented by task force member LuAnn Miller.

Saturday, Feb. 22 at 12:24 a.m.: Isla Vista Foot Patrol officers observed a 20-year-old woman stumbling down the 6600 block of Sabado Tarde Road, nearly falling over and leaning on parked cars for support. Guessing her awkward, rhythmless gait was not a result of a crippling lacrosse injury, the officer approached the woman.

With a victory over Long Beach State on Wednesday night, the #19 UCSB women's basketball team generated its eighth-straight Big West regular season title and 20-win season. Santa Barbara (20-4 overall, 12-1 in the Big West) knocked off the 49ers for the 23rd consecutive time on its way to capturing the crown in an 85-70 win.

The UCSB men's basketball team faces Long Beach State today at 5 p.m. in the Thunderdome in what boils down to a must-win game. Santa Barbara currently stands a half game behind Irvine in the Big West Conference standings and will face the Anteaters on Saturday at 7 p.m. for Senior Night at the T-dome.

The UCSB softball team dropped a doubleheader to the Bruins at Campus Diamond, 6-0 and 2-0 while UCLA won its 16th and 17th straight games. The Gauchos failed to score for the second and third consecutive games but demonstrated that they can compete with the best.
