Dr. Kenneth Baldwin of UC Irvine is a biophysicist and one of four UC professors who serve on the NASA Advisory Council, which reports directly to the agency administrator. Superior Court Judge Diana Hall is contesting the six criminal counts she faces, including a felony count for driving under the influence on Dec. 21. A sheriff's deputy pulled Hall over at gunpoint just over a mile from her house and arrested her after she failed a sobriety test.

Last week, I stopped into the new Sushi Teri Japanese restaurant on the corner of Pardall Road and Embarcadero del Mar. Though I noticed that it was a little overpriced, I reluctantly handed my $8.66 to the woman behind the counter, expecting to devour something real good.

Despite opening the weekend with a gutsy 12-inning, 4-2 victory over #11 University of Houston on Friday, the Gauchos blew leads in the ninth inning against Washington and Pepperdine. The Huskies defeated Santa Barbara 6-5 and the Waves stunned UCSB 5-2.

The Gauchos cruised to a 70-58 victory on Saturday night against Idaho to improve to 17-3 overall and 10-1 in the Big West. Santa Barbara sparked the second-half comeback with an 8-0 run with 12 minutes left to play to regain the momentum.

After winning all five games at the Early Bird Tournament at home last weekend, the Gauchos lost their first game of the season to Sacramento State 3-1 in the opening game of the Roundup. Santa Barbara regained its composure though and rattled off four straight games, improving its mark to 9-1 in preseason play.

The #13 UCSB men's volleyball team dropped its fourth straight match Friday night against #11 UCLA at Pauley Pavilion. The Bruins needed only 90 minutes to sweep the Gauchos in three games, 30-26, 31-29, 30-22.
