Over the last 10 months, I have watched with wonder and great confusion as the GOP tried to find its footing in its new role as America's minority political party. I have watched as what should have been a "debate" on health care reform quickly became a mudslinging campaign with no concern for truth or facts. And I have watched as embarrassment and outrageous scandal fell on one Republican politician after another.

Ah, the rainy season has begun. Truly, the best way to enjoy this weather includes hot chocolate and a comfy couch, or warm clothes and an umbrella. Every once in a while though, it is necessary to get your bike and forge ahead to that midterm or class that just absolutely cannot be missed. Unfortunately, I feel the need to attend most of my classes on a daily basis, rain or shine, and usually can bear the rain for that 10 minute stretch. Unless, of course, my path to class happens to involve a cigarette bum three bikes ahead of me.

Winning on the road is never easy. Except, of course, when it is. Despite playing without three regular starters, the #3 UCSB men's soccer team cruised to a 3-0 victory in a high noon game at UC Davis.

Down 2-1 with under six minutes to play, senior forward Genelle Ives headed in a goal in crunch time to send the UCSB women's soccer team into overtime with visiting Cal State Long Beach. The reigning Big West Offensive Player of the Year's first score of the season could not have come at a better time, as sophomore forward Alissa Sanchez followed with the game-ending goal to give the home team a decisive 3-2 victory Thursday night.
