Clint Eastwood, the minimalist director who last brought us 2007's harrowing set of films, "Flags of Our Fathers" and "Letters From Iwo Jima," is a master at portraying the desperate individual caught in an unfortunate situation. His latest work, "Changeling," based off a real-life mystery ripped from L.A. Times headlines by the film's screenwriter, continues with this motif.

"Zack and Miri Make a Porno" sees Kevin Smith doing lots of things that he has never done before -- moving out of his favored New Jersey locale and into a slightly different but equally industrial corner of the northeast, casting Jason Mewes as something other than the lovable drug dealer Jay, and avoiding the usual final-scene meltdown where all the characters realize that they had everything that they needed to be happy all along.

What exactly is Oliver Stone trying to say with his biopic on our current president, "W"? It seemed nearly impossible for a director as famous for openly courting controversy in his films ("JFK," "The Doors," "Natural Born Killers") to create a film that almost completely lacks a coherent point-of-view. Especially when the figure at the center of this biopic is our current president, George W. Bush, one of the most polarizing and well-known figures around the world.

Dane Cook is not -- and probably never will be -- a movie star. While his standup has proven to be immensely popular, it translates poorly to the big screen, and Cook's army of presumably adolescent fans have not bought tickets to his string of cinematic flops -- see "Good Luck Chuck" and "Employee of the Month."
