With a season of blood, sweat and tears only two games from completion, the UCSB women's volleyball team hits the home stretch this upcoming week, looking to secure a bid into the NCAA Tournament. Currently with the 40th-ranked RPI in the nation and tied for second in the Big West, the revitalized Gauchos of 2009 will make a long-awaited return to the Thunderdome this Saturday at 7 p.m. to take on Cal State Northridge before a midweek clash with San Diego State.

Maybe it was the inability of star senior outside Becca Saraceno to get into rhythm. Maybe the bottom-feeding Mustangs were getting tired of losing. Either way, a red-hot UCSB women's volleyball team (19-6 overall, 9-4 Big West) was cooled off within the icy confines of Mott Gym on Saturday as Cal Poly (7-19, 3-10) put a stop to the Gauchos' five-game winning streak, pulling off a shocking upset to end a seven-game skid.

Only days after a successful weekend sweep of Cal State Fullerton and Long Beach State, the Gauchos traveled to Cal State Northridge and recorded their fourth straight three-set victory, winning for the eighth time in nine games.

While the majority of UC Santa Barbara was tearing it up in Isla Vista this past weekend to celebrate Halloween, the UC Santa Barbara women's volleyball team (8-3 overall, 18-5 Big West) was unleashing its own witchcraft in the Thunderdome, breaking out the broomsticks for a pair of sweeps over Cal State Fullerton and Long Beach State - both teams they had lost to on the road earlier this season.
