Congress announced earlier this month it would indefinitely postpone voting on two anti-piracy bills in response to the recent upsurge of public protest against the legislations.
The Protect Intellectual Property Act, introduced in the Senate last May by Senator Patrick Leahy, aims primarily to protect against foreign websites posing “online threats to economic creativity and theft of intellectual property.” Texas Congressmember Lamar Smith brought the Stop Online Piracy Act to the House Judiciary Committee in October to similarly protect against online copyright infringement.
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid stalled the vote on PIPA — originally scheduled for Jan. 24 — to allow lawmakers a chance to address concerns over the bill’s language. Smith also pulled SOPA from discussion until February in light of public concerns about the legislation’s potential implications of Internet censorship.
California Senator Dianne Feinstein, one of several PIPA co-sponsors, said the suspension will allow lawmakers to collaborate with CEOs from major corporations, such as Google’s Eric Schmidt, to modify the bill.

World famous electronic music producer Joel Zimmerman, better known by his stage name deadmau5, put on a visually stunning performance last Thursday at the Santa Barbara Bowl as part of his Meowingtons Hax Tour across North America.
The Canadian techno icon brought fellow DJs/producers Jason Bentley, Le Castle Vania and Feed Me to open the concert with impressive acts capable of wowing even those unfamiliar with the genre. Despite the venue’s assigned seating and limited floor space, deadmau5’s masterful mixes from on top of his famous “cube” had everyone in the packed amphitheater electrified and on their feet.
Attendees wearing glow-in-the-dark mouse ears began to fill the venue as the night settled and Feed Me ended his heavy-hitting electro-dubstep performance. The crowd began to slowly chant in anticipation for the event’s main act as the stage gave way to deadmau5’s backdrop and setup.
For those of you living under a rock, deadmau5 is known for combining his massive electro, progressive and house tunes with high-quality visuals for a full-body music experience. While many DJs incorporate fellow producers’ works and remixes, deadmau5 plays his own tracks almost exclusively. The electronic music idol has headlined at major events around the world and has won various awards since the release of his third album Random Album Title.

Standing among hundreds in the backyard of 6741 Del Playa Drive last Thursday at 11:30 p.m., I could see my thoughts on the faces of everyone around me.
“He isn’t coming.”
Earlier that night, word spread via text message and music blog EasyLoveRecords’
Facebook page that world-renowned electronic music producer Porter Robinson would make a surprise performance in Isla Vista. People fortunate enough to learn the news anxiously crowded around the empty setup for signs of the rumored appearance as the clock ticked closer to midnight.
“A lot of people didn’t even think he was coming on,” Michael Walker, a fourth-year business economics major said. “They thought the people were just messing with them because he is such a big name.”
Despite growing skepticism, EasyLove members assured the audience Robinson would arrive after his opening act at Tiesto’s “College Invasion” tour in the Santa Barbara Bowl. At around 11:45 p.m., the 19 year-old prodigy from North Carolina walked on stage and opened the night with songs from his debut EP “Spitfire” as the shoulder-to-shoulder crowd exploded with energy.
“It was absolutely packed from wall-to-wall,” Walker said. “There were people dancing so hard they were sending shockwaves through the crowd.”
