Cervin Morris

In a throwback to the assault charges he received while attending UCSB, former Associated Student president Cervin Morris was arrested at San Diego State University earlier this month for suspicion of attempted robbery, false imprisonment, criminal threats and battery.

On Oct. 10, Morris was reported to be threatening a student at an SDSU residence hall by pinning the individual against a wall. He was quickly arrested for his behavior and transported to jail. Less than a week later, however, Morris was sighted back on SDSU campus. He asked to be escorted to the Office of the Ombudsman, told individuals he was legally blind and name-dropped himself as a former UCSB A.S. president, according to the SDSU Daily Aztec.

Cervin Morris was elected A.S. president at UCSB for 2004-05 and during his term in he pled ‘no contest’ to an assault charge he received on Nov. 12, 2004 for bludgeoning a man in the head with a glass bottle and punching another man in the face. Morris had another run-in with county authorities in 2007, when he reportedly disturbed the Goleta Valley Cottage Hospital emergency staff and subsequently ended up in Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Dept. custody.

In 2007, Daily Nexus reporters journeyed with Morris to the Goleta Valley Cottage Hospital just before his detainment, where Morris told them he had accidentally driven an all-terrain vehicle off of a bridge while teaching students in Mexico, which left him in a coma for three to four days.

Police are urging anyone who sees him on the SDSU campus to call them at (619) 594 1991.

Way to go representing us Gauchos. I still remember that Nov 12 2004 incident.

Presidents are always doing crazy stuff...

…still, better than Bush.

Any journalistic ethics? At all?

Out of curiosity, does the Nexus keep track of all black former A.S. presidents, or just Cervin Morris?

And it’s pretty funny how, in spite of the mileage you’ve gotten out of Cervin, the Nexus never seems to mention that they endorsed him when he ran for A.S. President. Nice mileage you’ve gotten out of that endorsement. I’m sure it’s not racist at all. Nope. Not one bit.

Additionally, this man clearly has mental health issues. Does the Daily Nexus have ANY morals? Other than the continued hard-on you have for A.S., why is Morris, some FIVE YEARS after he was A.S. President and no longer a resident of Santa Barbara, still news in the Daily Nexus?

demigoddess, thanks for articulating what was weird about this article. i like news, the more the better, but i don’t really care whether a years-ago former a.s. president is getting into trouble.

In my opinion, the guy is an alum so he is still associated with UCSB. Hypothetically speaking if an alum is to make a sparking discovery in science or is up to no good, they still are a product of the university. Bad or good it is still news.

How is this article racist? Please don’t play that card, I’m sure I’m not the only one rolling my eyes to that comment.

I do agree that Cervin may have mental issues which I wished the Nexus mentioned. Searching for news source articles online, he was admitted before for psychiatric help.
